New to the industry and her inaugural post-college role, Seyln Ung was initially drawn to the Terra Spectrum Technologies team, now our technology and innovation division, because of the passion she could feel during the interview process with the team. “You could sense the passion in the room,” says Seyln. “Everyone on the team was very helpful in walking me through the deeper insights of what working in this industry would look like. That was the kind of work environment I strived to be in, and that was what made me excited, and it’s been a very fruitful experience so far.
A graduate of Western Michigan University from the College of Engineering and Applied Science in 2023, Selyn has a bachelor’s degree in computer science. From her first day on the web development team within the Technology and Innovation Division, Selyn dove into the position, taking on new responsibilities to learn the industry and job. “I love dipping my toes into new things and I see the importance and need of this industry in the real-world today,” says Seyln. “My passion and ideal work environment both aligned with the role and team, and that further solidified my interest in joining the company. The chance to actively contribute to this cause and the constant learning process were what drew me in – and continue to do so today.”
Seyln found the team to be helpful in navigating her initial time on the job, helping familiarize herself with the codebase and understanding things that were new to her, which in turn, helped her take on bigger tasks and develop new features for the website. On any given day, there’s something new to work on – whether she’s developing new designs and features for an urban forestry dashboard, drilling and debugging why something isn’t working as expected, or helping new innovations come to life for the team and clients.
Her favorite part of the job is the satisfaction after fixing a problem and completing a feature, which drives her motivation to continue. “I’m actively focused on contributing my skills and enthusiasm to make a positive impact,” says Seyln. “I’m dedicated to learning, collaborating with my team, and understanding the intricacies of our projects. I’m excited about the potential to contribute meaningfully to upcoming initiatives and projects. As I continue to grow within the company, I look forward to leaving a lasting impact through my dedication and commitment.”
