Kristin Maier
Environmental Scientist
A love for the outdoors all started for Kristin Maier when she interned in aquatic biology with the National Park Service (NPS) in West Virginia. When she initially began taking environmental science courses in her undergrad, she didn’t know what direction she wanted to take but the NPS internship solidified her interest in the aquatic ecology world.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Kristin attended Michigan Tech University and obtained her master’s degree in applied ecology. Fun fact: this part of the upper peninsula of Michigan gets so much snow that the campus has snowmobile parking lots for students who want to drive snowmobiles to class.
Kristin started with Transcon (now our environmental division) in April 2023 and was drawn to the company and position because the people she interviewed with were genuine and transparent. “I was excited to be working with so many different experts in their field,” says Kristin.
Since joining the Eocene team, Kristin has gained a lot more aquatic experience in various parts of Utah, along with an extensive amount of geographic information system (GIS), writing, and permitting experience. Prior to this job, she had no permitting experience so she had to work hard to get up to speed with that aspect of her job.
In her role as an environmental scientist, Kristin has the opportunity to engage with a variety of clients and projects. “Even if I am not on a project, it’s always interesting to hear about what other co-workers are working on. I’m excited about the prospect of working alongside, and learning more from, my peers and co-workers.”
When she’s not working, you can find her with her two guinea pigs (named Popcorn and Pirate), who she loves dearly, or driving her motor scooter around town.
