Ecology

Eocene Environmental Group Offers Comprehensive Ecology Services, Aligning Projects with Ecological Principles & Legal Requirements.

Our experienced team of biologists performs field investigations for a vast array of species in a multitude of ecosystems. Prior to conducting field reviews, we use several resources to conduct background research to determine potential biological and/or species concerns.

Once in the field, our biologists conduct a thorough review of the project area to:

  1. Document the existing vegetative communities and habitat conditions within the project area.
  2. Evaluate the habitat suitability of the project area for special-status plant and animal species.
  3. Assess potential impacts to special-status species potentially occurring within the project area.

Ecology Services We Offer

Eocene’s ecology services include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Migratory bird surveys, including raptor surveys.
  • Burrowing owl surveys.
  • Vegetation/habitat characterization and mapping.
  • Habitat sensitivity analyses.
  • Delineation of jurisdictional waters and wetlands.
  • Sensitive wildlife and plant surveys.
  • Threatened and endangered species protocol surveys.

Restoration Planning & Monitoring

Growth and development can disturb ecological habitats, making the need for restoration planning and ongoing monitoring essential to rebuilding the ecosystem. Our team is here to support you during this part of your project.

We have direct experience in planning, implementation and support. When designing restoration plans, our biologists follow a proven system:

  1. Establish baseline conditions.
  2. Set restoration goals and formulate a plan.
  3. Implementation.
  4. Ongoing restoration monitoring.

Biological Compliance & Monitoring

Resource monitoring can be difficult, as it often involves long periods of inactivity followed by rapid and decisive action. Our biologists have logged thousands of hours performing construction monitoring and will work alongside your team as a resource to keep your project moving.

We have developed specialized training for working in sensitive areas, and we can come to your job site to facilitate in-person training for construction personnel, helping them to identify and perform work in areas with sensitive resources. Our staff has the commitment level that engenders respect among the construction crew, the client and other environmental inspectors.

Threatened, Endangered & Sensitive Species

Our team is skilled at analyzing short-term, long-term and cumulative impacts. We evaluate the presence of federally protected, threatened or endangered plant and animal species (listed and proposed) in accordance with formal and/or informal consultation procedures described in Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act of 1973. We routinely coordinate with federal and state agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

We assist clients with policy ecology compliance related to:

  • Clean Water Act (CWA)
  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Endangered Species Act (state and federal)
  • California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
  • Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA)
  • Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act
